British Fundraising Goes for Gold
Share in the glory, help us give British athletes more support than they have ever had. We want to even the financial playing field so Team Britain can get not just what it deserves but what it needs to support its natural talents.
ROYAL MESSAGE OF SUPPORT from Princess AnneJust once every four years the British Olympic Association seeks your help and support to send what is, after all, your team to the Olympic Games.
Those selected represent a small proportion of talented, committed and highly motivated people of this country, Many will have devoted many years of their lives - and most probably have made considerable sacrifices - to reach this goal. If, with your help , we can raise the funds we urgently need, then everyone who reaches the high standard for selection will be able to compete, and with the all important professional backing which will ensure that he or she will be as well prepared as possible.
You may admire them or envy them, your support will centainly help to inspire them to achieve their personal best.
Anne
Unlike other countries, Britain gives no government support to the Olympic team . There are no training camps at government expense to support and nurture them . No college sports scholarships and few big commercial contracts. Our athletes do not receive huge financial support even after they win, let alone before.
Even being fed properly to maximize their potential may come down to the largesse of the local butcher! For these Olympics, the British Olympic Association is making an all-out affort to improve the support for our team -- Team Britain. Here in USA we are going all out to help that effort.

British Olympic Association
I am delighted that the British Olympic Association (USA) is about to be
launched. The Association has completed the groundwork for an intensive fund
raising programme in the run-up to the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996 and I
would like to pay tribute to the Association's hard work so far.
The aim is to raise $2 million towards the cost of sending the strongest possible team of British athletes to the Gmaes. This is an ambitious target but
British sportmen - unlike many of those from other countries - do not receive
official financial support. They rely on the generosity of private donors. It
is up to us to encourage as many people - British and American - as possible to
contribute. If the British team are to give of their best, they need our help.
This is a cause that really is deserving of our support. I hope this appeal
is the most successful ever.
