who is eligible ?
Government agencies, service organizations, associations,
special interest groups and clubs, schools, civic organizations,
churches, medical service providers such as hospitals and
clinics, consultants and other businesses with information
about their services. Generally anyone who provides public
information free of charge is eligible.
what costs are there ?
There is no cost, it is all public service. Tax deductible
donations to help increase access (more phone lines) and provide
disk space (more disks) are always welcomed however. It is
left to the information suppliers themselves to contribute
however they see fit in order to guarantee the continued existence
of the system.
what is needed in order to get started ?
You need to have the approval of the agency, organization
or association to be the spokesperson for this group. The
person or persons providing the information will need to establish
a TFN Organizational Account, be able to use e-mail, and have
a basic knowledge of html. The Library Freenet Helpdesk offers
classes in basic html.
after the account is established, what's next ?
First you must create a public_html directory and an index.html
file in your organizational account's homefiles. You can get
help from the homepage help page. Once you have created the
directory and the index.html file, you can edit your organization's
homepage to say and show what you want it to. Clear this with
the organization as to what type of information they would
like to offer.
how do we get our homepage linked up to tfn ?
Look at the existing WWW pages on TFN and see where your's
best "fits". We can offer some guidance on this.
Send e-mail to newsupplier@tfn.net
with the following type of message:
Please add our organization
to the TFN WWW pages. We believe that our page would fit best
under (insert tfn URL) WWW Page. My name is (your name) representing
(name of organization), (org_login)@tfn.net and I will be
responsible for updating this information.
Your organization's homepage will be examined and you will
be notified as to its location in the TFN WWW pages.
what is our organization's URL ?
Your organizational account will have the following URL (Universal
Resource Locator):
http://www.tfn.net/~org_acct_id
EXAMPLE URL for mcmcorp@tfn.net's homepage:
http://www.tfn.net/~mcmcorp
Some organizations want a URL which is different then their
login. For instance they might want it to be all caps or they
may want a different name altogether. If your organization
wants a name that is different from its login, just let us
know when you send in your request to be linked to the TFN
WWW pages. We will be happy to accomodate you if we can.
Please contact us if you need more assistance than this document
provides.
