The Panhandle Adult Literacy Center
Addressing Literacy Needs in Florida's Panhandle
The Region One Panhandle Adult Literacy Center is funded by a grant from the Florida Department of Education Division of Workforce Development. The purpose of the Center is to provide support services to literacy providers, including volunteers, in fifteen counties in the Panhandle. Headquarters for PALC is Leon County Schools Adult and Community Education, 283 Trojan Trail, Tallahassee, FL 32311.

Jack will be working with adult education programs, volunteer organizations, and other literacy providers throughout the Panhandle offering a variety of technical assistance and training. Future plans for service include technical assistance in the following areas:
- Grant writing
- Information and student referral services (toll free number)
- Resource materials for program management and instructional staff
- Resources for adult learners
- Volunteer and LEA staff development and training
- Public relations
- Dissemination of current information (newsletter and Web site)
- Program start up
- An "on-line" provider advisory board
- Materials development
Training will be offered using the following curriculum materials:
- Curriculum for the Adult Beginning Reader - 0 to 3.0
- Teacher's Handbook for the Functional Skills
- Teacher/Classroom Resources & Ideas from the Florida GED Teachers' Handbook (Activities and Resources Sections)
- Career Education Guide
- ABE Florida Materials: Resource Guide and Assessment Guide
