This site is entitled Today in History. It gives 10-15 short comments about what happened on this date in history (mainly American history). It also lists birthdays for this date.

This takes you to the Merriam Webster site that gives you a word of the day. It defines it and talks about its origins. It also has a link to a word puzzle of the day. Some of these are challenging, but higher-level students could be encouraged to visit this site regularly.

This site gives you a fact for what happened on the current date in Black History. It also allows you to put in any date or a word to search by to find other information. Most short comments have a button to click for more information.

This website offers a math challenge that involves some thinking skills, as well as, math. This could be another site to encourage students to check out regularly. There is also a family corner that shows students who are not confident in their math how to help their children.
