Math Bingo

By Jenny Helms

Math Bingo is a fun way for students to practice their math skills. It can can be played in groups or one-on-one, and it can cover a wide range of math math. The teacher is responsible for making the Bingo cards, problem sheets to match the Bingo cards, and the chips. They can be made as elaborately or as simply as the teacher wants.

The teacher will want to make at least two boards for each skill being practiced since at least two people will be playing. For instance, if multiplication tables are the skill being practiced, then two multiplication boards need to be made. On the boards, answers will be listed in squares. A reader will be needed to read off the problems while the two opponents playing try to find the answer to their problem on their Bingo card. It is just like regular Bingo. If the answer is on the student’s card, he/she lays a chip on it. Once a student has chips filling a row, he/she can yell, “Bingo”! If all answers are correct, then that student is the winner and plays the next opponent. It could be on the same skill or a harder skill. (If students are going to continue on the same skill level, the teacher will want to have more Bingo cards available.)
