The Southeastern Literacy Conference
Will Host a National Center for Family Literacy
Training Event
By Jack Newell
This is the time of year during which new and old family literacy programs are planning their fall activities. Whether a program is new or has been around for a while all have training needs. New staff needs training and old staff needs refreshing. The State Library of Florida is Joining with the Panhandle Adult Literacy Center to sponsor one and one half days of intensive family literacy training at the Southeastern Literacy Conference in Pensacola. The training will be offered as a pre-conference event on November 14th and Parent and Child Together (PACT) training will be offered at the conference on the 15th. The workshops will be conducted by the National Center for Family Literacy and will require pre-registration. Participation will be limited to forty on a first come first served basis. Conference and registration information can be found on the Panhandle Adult Literacy Center Web site (www.tfn.net/palc/). A registration form may be printed, from that site, and mailed. For information about the pre-conference contact Sandy Newell at the State Library of Florida ; (850)487-2651.
The National Center for Family Literacy is one of the best sources for that training. It has been in existence since early in the family literacy movement and has synthesized the knowledge and experience of the best talent in the field.
This is a great opportunity to get some of the best training available in family literacy without the considerable expense usually associated with this level of quality. Contact Jack Newell at the Panhandle Adult Literacy Center, (888) 585-9013 (toll free) for general conference information.
