Coupons and Advertising
ESOL and Basic Literacy Classes
(From: Teacher Handbook for the Funtional Skills)
Show students coupons and advertisements and explain the difference. Go over key vocabulary; for example: coupon, ad, save, size, flavor, limit, and expiration date.
Have students pair with partners or get into small groups and answer questions such as:
- Is this a coupon or an ad?
- How much do you save?
- How many can you buy?
- When does it expire?
- What size (or kind) must you buy?
- Is there a limit?
When students get back together as a group ask individual groups to report to the class.
