Regular and Irregular VerbsExplain that the heart of any sentence is the verb that tells what is happening. Explain that verbs are "inflected": they change form for different times. Some verbs remain uninflected (example: beat). Review tenses and give examples of regular verb tenses (example: walk). Explain that some verbs do not follow the rules but are irregular and illustrate with "go." Give students a Cloze exercise in which verb forms are omitted but supplied in a word bank. Learners must write the correct form. This activity should be spread out over time. Work Bank: John asked me to _____________to the movies. I asked him when he was___________. He said if all ____________ well, we would ____________tonight. I asked him how we would get there. He said we could _____________. But I do not much like ____________.
