TFN Inactive Account Policy
In order to ensure that TFN resources are available for community members that are actively using the service, TFN Administrators follow the following schedule for removing accounts that are no longer used:
1. Each calendar month, a list of accounts that have not used any TFN service is generated. You can stay off this list by dialing into the TFN modem pool, logging into the telnet or ssh server, using webmail, using FTP, etc.

2. If any account is on the inactive list for three consecutive months, it is considered abandoned.* Abandoned accounts may be suspended at the discretion of the TFN administrators. A message will be posted on the Notes & Status web page whenever accounts are suspended.

3. Owners of suspended accounts have 30 days to notify TFN that they would like their account. Write to tfn-problems@tfn.net to do this. We may ask you some questions to validate your ownership.

4. If a suspended account is not reactivated by the owner within the 30 day grace period, it is permanently removed. At this point, all files and email records are deleted and the owner must re-register if they want access. A message will be posted on the Notes & Status web page whenever accounts are permanently deleted.

* Special exception for email forwarders: We will not suspend your account for inactivity if you have a valid forwarding address in-place for your email. We recognize that some people want to retain their TFN email address but do not use any other services. However, if an account is on the inactive list and we send you an email and determine that the email address to which your mail is forwarded is invalid (usually because of a bounce), your account will be suspended and you have the same 30 grace period as described above. We routinely send messages to all users several times per year.
* Special exception for accounts over disk quota: If your account is over disk quota and remains over quota (automatically locked) for more than 30 days, it is considered abandoned and will be suspended. Suspended accounts can be reclaimed as noted in the above policy.
